| EMERGENCY
IN COLOMBIA FROM HEAVY RAINS |
Given the serious
rainy season emergency that is punishing
the country, and which to date has left
more than a million persons affected,
including more than half a million children,
what measures do you think should be
taken to prevent a rain emergency? What
would you suggest so that all of us
together can help and give support for
the affected populations?

Message of UN Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon
on the occasion of the International Day of Peace
- 21 September 2009 -
The International Day of Peace is a global call
for cease-fire and non-violence. It is a moment
to reflect on the horror and the cost of war,
and on our duty to peacefully resolve controversies.
Most of the victims of conflicts are defenceless
persons. Innocent civilians. Fathers, mothers,
children. Without peace, they have little hope
of improving their lives. Little hope to free
themselves from poverty.
